Description At Decor Cabinets, we are passionate about creating high-quality cabinets that combine beauty, durability, and performance. We’re looking for a Process Engineer specializing in wood coatings to join our team and take a lead role in optimizing our spray finishing operations.

This role is key to driving quality, efficiency, and compliance in our finishing processes, and you’ll work alongside a collaborative team of engineers, technicians, and production staff to make it happen.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop & Standardize Finishing Processes
  • Design, refine, and standardize spray finishing processes for painting, staining, sealing, and topcoating.
  • Select and evaluate coatings for appearance, performance, and compliance.
  • Apply materials science principles to enhance coating durability and aesthetics.
  • Troubleshoot & Improve Quality
  • Investigate and resolve finish issues using your knowledge of coating formulations and wood substrates.
  • Conduct tests for gloss, adhesion, film build, chemical resistance, and overall finish performance.
  • Eliminate surface defects through root cause analysis and continuous process refinement.
  • Collaborate Across Departments
  • Partner with suppliers and R&D to trial new coatings, catalysts, and additives.
  • Monitor and fine-tune spray machine and equipment conditions for consistency and throughput.
  • Test, evaluate and optimize spray application equipment (both manual and automated).
  • Train, Improve & Ensure Compliance
  • Train staff in spray application, process controls, and safety procedures.
  • Lead Lean and Six Sigma-based improvements to reduce waste and rework.
  • Ensure all finishing operations comply with environmental and health regulations.

What You Bring

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in spray finishing or coatings, ideally in wood/furniture manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with automated or robotic spray application systems.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong foundation in coating chemistry and curing mechanisms.
  • Experience troubleshooting finish defects and inconsistencies.
  • Skilled in ERP systems, SPC tools, and manufacturing metrics.
  • Core Competencies:
  • Project Management and process documentation skills
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, CAD 2D/3D)
  • Lean/Six Sigma process improvement experience
  • Strong attention to detail, data-driven mindset, and hands-on problem-solving skills
