The Opportunity
RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Payroll Officer position starting September 2, 2025 in the Payroll Department. This position is located at the Education Centre in Airdrie, AB.
The Payroll Officer works under the supervision of the Manager of Payroll and is responsible for preparing and distributing Rocky View Schools’ (RVS) monthly and biweekly payroll for employees. The Payroll Officer prepares reports and processes all compensation and payroll deductions.
Responsibilities Include

Coordinates and processes payroll for all RVS employees to ensures employees are
correctly and appropriately paid in accordance with federal and provincial regulations,
and the Board’s Collective Agreement and Terms of Employment
-
Performs timesheet calculation and data entry; benefit deduction calculations; reporting
and filing; pay increases; wage garnishments; workers compensation payments; deferred
compensation; direct deposit submission; distribution of pay statements
-
Maintains confidentiality and discretion of all payroll and employment matters including
but not limited to employee files, wage garnishments, benefits, taxes, payroll reports,
union payments, workers’ compensation payments, and deferred compensation plans
-
Administers, reconciles, and or/remits a variety of documents related to employee hires,
terminations, retirements, and various benefits entitlements
-
Prepares and verifies statements and records of earnings for employees
-
Processes payroll audits, employment insurance claims, employment verifications, sick and
vacation accruals, and employment correspondence
-
Compiles statistical reports, statements and summaries related to pay and benefit accounts
-
Assists in completing various payroll projects by conducting research, gathering
information, and generating reports as required
-
Creates, reviews, and evaluates payroll practices and procedures to improve services and
accuracy
-
Interprets and implements RVS’ employment policies and procedures ensuring compliance
with relevant employment legislations
-
Partners with Human Resources and other identified stakeholder groups to promote
collaborative working relationships

Supports RVS staff with all payroll and benefit matters with professionalism and discretion
Education/Experience
-
Payroll Compliance Professional certification
-
Certificate or Diploma in Payroll administration, Accounting, Bookkeeping, or related field
-
Three to five years successful experience in full-cycle payroll processing functions
-
Previous experience processing payroll within a school division and/or unionized
environment is considered an asset
-
Experience performing bookkeeping or accounting functions is considered an asset
-
An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
Knowledge and Skills
-
High Attention to detail and consistency in day-to-day processes
-
Thorough knowledge of payroll procedures and current government regulations
-
Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and provide high levels of service-oriented
performance in challenging situations
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high levels of tact and diplomacy
-
Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines while managing frequent interruptions
-
Ability to apply sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality
-
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal
supervision
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
