2 ‑ Part Time – Registered Practical Nurse

Paediatric Inpatient Unit

This position has no set schedule, casual call‑ins

This position will involve working the day, evening, night and weekend shifts. The shift is not to be interpreted as a

guarantee.

Reporting to the Manager ‑ Paediatrics Services, you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to a

patient population with predictable outcomes. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, you will practice within

the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Philosophy of patient and family centered care,

mission vision, values and the policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

* Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the

ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario

* Current certification in BCLS

* Recent experience in Paediatric Nursing with experience in the care of complex patient populations, including care

of stable medical surgical patients who may or may not be technology dependant (feeding tube fed, tracheostomy),

care of beginning families, patients with mental health and/or behavioural diagnosis, children with developmental

challenges.

* Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his

basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery

* Collaborates with Registered Nurse's when patients assigned to the Registered Practical Nurse become unstable

or have outcomes that are not as expected

* Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action

* Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions

* Strong interprofessional and communication skills

* Central Venous Line Management

In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who:

* Have certification or recent continuing education in paediatric nursing, , lactation support/education , Paediatric

Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Nurses Paediatric Course (ENPC)

Salary Range: $37.175 to 38.160
