RED SEAL TRUCK TECHNICIAN/APPRENTICE - DARTMOUTH SHOP
Location: 8 Moore Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Position: Permanent Full-Time- Afternoon Shift
Reporting to: Lead Hand
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm to 12:00am. Friday, 2:00pm to 6:00pm
Pay Rate: $41.15 per hour ($38.15 base + $3.00 pm shift premium)
Responsibilities:
In the position of Red Seal Truck Technician/Apprentice. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Must adhere to Miller Waste System safety protocols and must be familiar with occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Diagnose and repair complex, modern diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM and safety inspections.
- Mentor apprentice technicians and provide training to complete their apprenticeship program.
- Ensure that the shop and surrounding grounds are clean and organized at all times during the shift.
- You will be required to repair waste vehicles and trucks, including hydraulics and electrical as well as shop maintenance.
- You will be required to conduct vehicle maintenance according to established MWS policies and procedures.
- Liaise with Operations Supervisors and drivers in a professional and team-oriented manner.
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures.
Requirements:
- Successful candidates must possess and keep valid their licenses including a valid Journeyperson Certificate or be enrolled in a school for Truck & Transport Technician (Red Seal).
- Must have at least a valid Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to perform MVI inspections, and familiarity with transportation regulation.
- You will have ability to diagnose and rectify faults, as well as experience in repairing hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Strong technical knowledge of equipment is a must.
- You must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have strong self-management and organizational skills.
- Provide own tools and willingness to acquire tools as required for jobs.
- Your ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is key as well as working in a team environment.
- You must be available to work late when behind schedule, as well you may be required to work weekends and holidays.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
