Waters Edge Engineering Ltd. is a specialized civil/coastal engineering firm in Kelowna, BC. We focus on unique and rewarding waterfront projects across BC’s beautiful lakes. Our small, dedicated team is looking for an experienced Civil Technologist to support our growing project portfolio, either in a part-time staff role or as a contractor.
We work with exceptional government and private clients who appreciate our innovative and practical solutions. Our team provides analysis, design, construction inspection, and project leadership on a variety of projects, such as public parks, marinas, boat launches, shoreline erosion protection, sediment transport systems, and nature-based design solutions.
Current projects include a scenic new rail trail along remote Mara Lake and improvements to City Park waterfront in the heart of downtown Kelowna, both offering the chance to contribute to meaningful and lasting community infrastructure. About the Position
This opportunity is open to candidates with a variety of education and experience levels. The role can be performed remotely or in-office, with flexible hours and compensation based on your background and preferences.
Waters Edge is seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist experienced in using AutoCAD Civil 3D for design work and proficient in preparing drawing and contract packages to engineering standards. The role is full of opportunities and flexibility for self-motivated, quality-driven individuals. We have a niche service area, and we can teach you about the waterfront aspects as long as you have a solid foundation as a Civil Engineering Technologist and an interest in surface water.
Potential tasks on waterfront projects:
· Design-drafting in Auto CAD Civil 3D, engineering drafting tasks, report figures and tables, and support for engineers
· Use survey data to generate a Civil 3D surface, base plan, and sections for design
· Prepare drawings suitable for tender, construction, and record set, including applying standard engineering notes, specs, and quantity take-offs
· (optional) Design tasks such as, boat launches, earthworks, materials specs
· (optional) Construction inspections with reporting and contract administration with MMCD or other specifications
· (optional) Surveys using basic survey level and rod for sediment monitoring programs, and reporting year-over-year comparative differences
· (optional) Project coordination and management tasks for senior applicants
The position is hourly and either a part time permanent staff or contract position. The hours and the pay will depend on the individual's abilities and preferences, as well as the current workload. The position could evolve into a full-time position for the right candidate.

What you Bring
You bring the ability to complete ACAD drawings from start to finish using Civil 3D, excellent professional written communication skills, and a keen attitude to learn and take on new tasks. We will provide any technical training required to perform work associated with unique waterfront project aspects that we ask the candidate to take on.
Minimum qualifications:
· 2-years minimum experience working in a civil engineering firm with exposure to creating engineering design drawings for construction
· Exceptional Civil 3D and AutoCAD skills, including knowledge of industry standards for engineering drawing sets
· Professional-level written and verbal communication in English
· Interest in working on waterfront projects
Preferred assets (in order of priority):

Able to accommodate flexibility in tasks and work hours

10+ years of related civil engineering technology and CAD experience

ASc.T. or GradTech registered with or ability to register with ASTTBC

Experience in municipal, hydrotechnical or geotechnical engineering

Experience producing assessment reports, detailed designs, drawing sets and specifications for tender and construction with the MMCD process

Familiarity with marine and shoreline systems, such as boating, marinas, breakwaters, wave processes, sediment transport, riprap structures, etc.

Class 5 drivers license and access to a personal vehicle[HB1] [TH2]
