Reports to: Director, Laboratory Operations
Purpose of the Role
The Education &Training Specialist reports to the Director, BC Laboratory Operations, and is responsible for the coordination and distribution of continuing education materials for the MLT and LTAs. The Education & Training Specialist facilitates orientation sessions for new MLT and LTAs within BC Lab Operations and they are responsible for working with supervisors to develop and implement department training programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working with Laboratory SME, identify current and future skill and knowledge gaps and design custom training programs to equip new/existing staff with the necessary skills.
- Develop training aids, including but not limited to handbooks, models, visual aids, presentations etc.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and quantify business results of completed training.
- Responsible for regular utilization of laboratory reports to determine the root cause of issues and implement corrective training.
- Maintains and manages department training programs, including training record retention.
- Develop/present/facilitate presentations in collaboration with Lab Ops leadership team.
- Supports the continuing education program for Lab Ops staff.
- Assists in problem solving related to training programs and provides input, as required, at meetings.
- Coordinates and acts as a resource for designated trainers within Lab Ops departments
- Coordinates the Orientation program for new MLTs and LTAs and tracks all participants of the program.
- Coordinates train the trainer sessions with support from QRA and tracks all participants of the program.
- Observes and executes all laboratory safety and security policies and regulations, including location and use of safety equipment, evacuation routes, disposal of contaminated material.
- Maintains knowledge of safety/WHMIS and TDG procedures
- Maintains confidentiality involving any information made available directly or indirectly about clients including physicians, patients, employees, and the company.
- Perform other essential tasks as assigned.
- Travel as required to labs within BC.
What you bring to the role:
- Minimum 5 years MLT experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing and conducting training programs.
- CSMLS Registered Medical Lab Technologist
- Ability to develop, present or facilitate presentations.
- Ability to react to change productively.
- Teaching experience an asset
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to all staff.
- Proficient in using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
