The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Manager, Property Accountant will play a critical role in leading financial operations across a dedicated portfolio of properties. This position involves supervising a team of four Property Accountants while also managing a full-cycle property accounting portfolio, financial reporting, and collaboration with internal teams and leaders to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial processes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Team Leadership – Provide ongoing supervision, leadership and training to a team of four dedicated Property Accountants.
- Full-Cycle Property Accounting – Manage financial reporting for a portfolio of residential properties and corporate entities.
- Financial & Management Reporting – Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports.
- General Ledger Oversight – Maintain and reconcile the general ledger for the organization.
- Month-End Close Activities – Process journal entries, reconcile sub-ledgers, and maintain workbooks.
- Recurring Entries & Adjustments – Post transactions related to mortgages, accruals, property taxes, and related party transactions.
- Asset & Mortgage Transactions – Record asset acquisitions, property purchases, refinances, and dispositions.
- Bank & Credit Card Reconciliations – Ensure accuracy across financial accounts.
- Process Improvement & System Enhancements – Assist with accounting system updates and process optimizations.
- Regulatory Compliance – Prepare and file HST returns in accordance with CRA deadlines.
- Special Projects & Ad-Hoc Support – Work closely with the Accounting Manager on key initiatives.
Job Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience (preferably in real estate or fund management).
- CPA Designation: CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) designation or active enrolment is a strongly preferred.
- Leadership: 2+ years of leadership experience, ideally within a Property Accounting team.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; previous experience using Yardi Voyager will be considered a strong asset.
- Collaborative & Adaptable: A proactive team player with a solution-oriented mindset.
Compensation :
The role offers a competitive base salary in the range of $110,000 - $125,000 per year (depending on experience). Additionally, this role offers a bonus, vacation + flex days, full health benefits as of day 1, and financial support for ongoing education support membership dues!
