Job Overview:
The Product Developer will be responsible for working with the Innovation & marketing team to conceptualize products and commission new Production lines for purchase and installation in one of Give & Go’s bakeries. The role will be tasked with the creation and development of new products or enhancing existing products in order to meet customer expectations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on innovation projects for company growth for their assigned Plant, liaising with all departments – Engineering, Marketing, Production, QA, Purchasing, Supply Chain
- Lead in formulating, scaling, baking and packaging of lab & customer samples, independently maintaining TVC & PDS records for formulation records, accurate costing, and Critical to Quality Points
- Prepare TVC’s to share costs and product data within the department
- Contribute to Project Charters and key functional experience on Capitol projects
- Attend FAT’s (Factory Acceptance Tests) and conduct SAT’s (Site Acceptance Tests) offsite for CapEx projects
- Record accurate formula data including recipes, methodology, deposit weights, baking losses, following test kitchen trials for translation to plant floor
- Ensure formulas are scaled to best accommodate ingredient pack sizes in the plant
- Formulate new product innovations and line extensions, seeing them through to commercialization
- Lead plant trials and FPR’s keeping detailed records on plant trial outcomes, including labour head counts and suitability to production
- Sign off lab & customer samples, producing when necessary; independently maintaining TVC’s for formulation records, accurate costing, and Critical to Quality Points. Prepares TVC’s to share costs and product data.
- Provide technical product details to Managers or Marketing for product presentations, delivering updates on progress of plant trials & project installations
- Take ownership of personal project load, being flexible to changes in the workload
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned product categories
- Develop new products from Sales and Marketing suggestions, Innovation sessions, or independently
- Identify areas of improvements and concerns and recommend improvements by providing guidance in product upgrades to meet changing business demands
- Schedule regular meetings to discuss about new product ideas and issues
- Observe all SQF and HACCP policies
- Troubleshoot when necessary to ensure product success.
Recipe for success:
- Completion of college /University diploma in Food Science or a related field
- Minimum 6 years experience in the Food Manufacturing industry
- Minimum accumulation of 6 years experience working in Product Development
- Preferred completion of university degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or a related field
- Certificate in Food Labelling or Food Law
- Chefs or Bakers Red Seal certificate. Master Baker or Pâtissier
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial bakery ingredients, production processes and equipment capability
- Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, GFSI (BRC, SQF) and Food Allergens
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Have good working knowledge of word, excel, power point and outlook
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize task, delegate and follow up
- Ability to lead, work independently, and in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Mentorship / Teaching / coaching ability to lead Interns PDA’s & PDC’s
- Solid understanding of urgency in responding to internal (other departments) and external (suppliers, agencies, customers) partners

Job Overview:
