About the Role
We are looking for a Float Cook to join our team! As a float cook, you will be supporting multiple child care locations. This role requires flexibility to float between locations based on staffing needs.
If you believe in the importance in preparing nutritious and delicious meals that support a warm and engaging environment for children to explore and grow, this role might be perfect for you
What You’ll Do:

Care for children and families within a variety of program spaces throughout our neighbourhoods (e.g. kitchens, community gardens) by preparing fresh, healthy, unique, and exciting meals and snacks each day

Be accountable to the children and families in our care by ensuring the constant safety and well-being is our top priority through the strong adherence to child food preferences and restrictions
-
Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen environments

Adhere to Today’s Family’s policies and procedures, Public Health standards, and the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Professional Practices to ensure the highest quality of interactions, relationships, and engagement with children and families

Work collaboratively with children and families as our partners to co-create experiences to investigate and explore new foods in innovative ways
-
Offer creativity and collaboration in sharing best thinking to creation of diverse menu items with the input and feedback from families
-
Facilitate belonging for all by creating welcoming, accepting, and safe cooking and kitchen environments

Explore new cuisines, tastes, and explorations in the world of food preparation, discovery, and engagement
-
Work collaboratively across our Cooks Network to investigate new ideas, processes, and practices to best empower and build food literacy and security within our programs and communities

Ensure a strong commitment to leading and caring with an intent for Equity, respect for Diversity, demand for Inclusion, and facilitation of Belonging that every family deserves
Licenses & Certifications Required

Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification, is an asset

Completion of Safe Food Handlers Certification, is an asset

Current Vulnerable Sector Check (done in the last 6 months)

Valid driver's license
You bring the following qualifications
- Familiarity with Canada’s Food Guide and Food Safety Standards and Regulations.
- Experience working within hospitality, restaurant or applicable food industry environments.
- Comfort and experience cooking larger quantities of quality food.
- Comfort and experience trying new recipes and cooking within diverse cuisines.
- Experience with food ordering, aligning purchasing with a budget, and exploring cost-effective ways to get the most out of our budget.
- A passion for working within environments designed for children, families, and communities.
- Record of up to date Immunization (TB Test, Tetanus, Polio, MMR)
