About the role
About Us: A Force for Positive Change
Founded in 2004 and located in the heart of downtown Halifax, Trampoline is a full-service branding agency with a simple mission: be a force of positive change. We are a certified B Corp, a team of strategists, creatives, marketers, and tech enthusiasts who are fiercely committed to our work, our clients, and each other. We believe that great people do great work, which is why we foster a culture of collaboration, courage, and creativity. We dig deep to create meaningful experiences across strategy, media, and technology for some of the region's most significant clients.
We're looking for a visionary Art Director to join our team. This isn't just about making things look good; it's about understanding the "why" behind the "what." You're a cultural analyst and a digital native who can translate emerging trends into powerful, platform-specific visual narratives that make an impact.
The Role: What You'll Do
As a digitally-minded Art Director, you will be the visual heart of your projects, responsible for steering the creative direction from initial concept to final execution across a diverse range of media. You are an original thinker who can match strategic thinking with stunning creative results, ensuring our work is always progressive and innovative.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Conceptual & Strategic Leadership: Partner with copywriters, strategists, media and web team to develop innovative, cross-platform campaign concepts. Translate consumer insights and cultural trends into compelling creative platforms designed for long-term brand building and resonance. Present and defend creative concepts to team members and clients, clearly articulating the strategic rationale behind your visual decisions.
-
Digital-First Execution & Art Direction: Lead the visual execution of integrated campaigns across all touchpoints, including social media (Meta, TikTok, YouTube), web, and experiential activations. Direct and oversee photo/video shoots, illustration, and motion design, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality visual output that aligns with brand standards. Apply a strong understanding of UI/UX design best practices to guide the creation of engaging, user-centric digital experiences in collaboration with our design and development teams.
-
Cultural & Trend Analysis: Act as a key source of cultural intelligence, actively monitoring and analyzing social, digital, and market trends to identify opportunities for brand relevance and innovation. Ensure all creative work is culturally fluent and authentic, building genuine connections with diverse audiences by moving beyond stereotypes and superficial "trend-jacking".
-
Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior creatives, reviewing work to ensure quality and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Work seamlessly with a cross-functional team of developers, project managers, and media specialists to deliver projects on time and to the highest creative standard.
What You'll Bring: Skills & Qualifications
-
3+ years of experience as an Art Director in an advertising agency or design studio, with a portfolio that showcases strong conceptual thinking and execution across digital and social campaigns.
-
Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma.
-
A deep, practical understanding of key social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, etc.), their native visual languages, and their advertising formats.
-
A strong grasp of UI/UX design principles and how they apply to creating engaging, mobile-first digital experiences.
-
Proven ability to think strategically, turning campaign objectives into breakthrough creative concepts and visual storytelling.
-
Experience using or experimenting with Generative AI tools (e.g., Midjourney, Firefly) to accelerate the creative process, and a clear point of view on the future of AI in advertising.
-
A natural collaborator with excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with clients and leading creative teams.
