Casual Tutor

Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) provides first class education to students and families throughout Huron and Perth Counties. We aim to engage, inspire, and innovate, in all that we do! The Centre for Education and Learning at various sites is looking to develop and grow an in-person tutoring program. We are looking for individuals who can support students with their credit attainment and general learning.

Tutoring sessions will run in person, daytime and evenings as needed. A schedule will be determined by tutor availability and student interest.

Examples of areas of need:

  • Math - Gr 7-12, all streams
  • Science - Gr 7-12, all streams

Start Date: September 1, 2025

End Date: Conditional on funding and need

Hours of Work: 3-20 hours per week. Daytime and evenings as needed.

Compensation Package Details:

Rate of Pay: $28.84per hour, as of September 1, 2025, in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Non-Union Centre for Education and Learning Employees.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience teaching or supporting learning;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and expertise in the course and/or subject area to which you are applying;
  • Applicants may be evaluated for math and language proficiency depending on experience and qualifications;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally as both a member of a team and independently;
  • Demonstrated proficiency and problem-solving skills in using technological applications and/or various online learning management systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to follow specific project requirements with excellent attention to detail.

Job Specifications and Requirements:

  • Support Gr 7-12 and adult students with their understanding of course material and provide additional instruction to promote achievement.

  • Access and provide appropriate resources to students.

  • Monitor CEL student progress through various adult ed courses and reach out to students accordingly.

  • Track student attendance for funding purposes.

  • Connect with teachers as appropriate to determine and support student needs.
