About the role
We are seeking an experienced Director of Fine Art Scanning to manage our Fine Art Scanning Department. The ideal candidate has a strong background in high-resolution art reproduction, client interaction, and expert-level image editing. This role blends technical skill with customer service and attention to fine detail.
Duties:
- Scan a wide variety of original client artwork using specialized large-format scanners
- Work directly with clients to proof, review, and approve scanned and printed artwork
- Print fine art reproductions using large- and small-format Epson printers
- Handle artwork with care, including removing from frames, basic reframing, and wrapping prints
- Provide quotes, process orders, invoice clients, and follow up on completed jobs
- Retrieve and manage client files from archives with a high level of organization
- Prepare print-ready files, crop images, and manage colour for accurate reproduction
- Proof prints with clients to ensure satisfaction and colour accuracy
- Maintain and operate high-value scanning equipment
- Work independently and manage day-to-day operations of the Fine Art Scanning Department
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
- Full-time role: 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential
- Minimum 18 months of Canadian work experience in a customer-facing role
- Industry experience: Prior experience in fine art scanning and reproduction is essential
- Artwork handling: Comfortable with removing artwork from frames, scanning, basic reframing, and handling delicate originals
- Technical skills:
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and strong skills in the full Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledge of RIP software and its role in the printing process
- Deep understanding of file types, resolution, file size, and colour spaces (RGB/CMYK, Pantone)
- Colour management: Experience with colour calibration, proofing, and matching for professional-level reproduction
- Attention to detail: Strong eye for detail and commitment to accuracy in every step of the scanning and printing process
- Client communication: Strong interpersonal skills for working directly with clients on proofs and revisions
- File management: Excellent organizational skills for managing and archiving digital assets
- Independence: Ability to work independently and take ownership of the department
