Job Description As a Sprinkler Fitter, you play a critical role in delivering on our commitments to our customers and partners. As the face of CFLS in the front lines, your daily interactions with our customers are a direct reflection of CFLS’s commitment to safety, quality and professionalism.

This document is intended to provide a guideline of roles and responsibilities and our overall expectation of our Sprinkler Fitter and alternatively what you can expect from your sprinkler operations team.

Task & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the work is performed safely and in accordance with CFLS’s safe work procedures as well as site specific safety regulations.

  • Create Weekly Progress Report with construction foreman and submit weekly

  • Ensure timely submission of installation crew’s weekly time sheets (1st workday of workweek)

  • Establish contact with customer’s site personnel (general contractor, trades, vendors, etc.).

  • Obtain approval for lay down areas and on-site storage

  • Check work areas, tools, and equipment for safety concerns

  • Attend job meetings as required.

  • Coordinate installation conflicts and work areas with other trades.

  • Identify changes to the original scope of work and communicate with the project team to appropriately address the changes.

  • Control site inventory and track material.

  • Maintain a two-week look-ahead. Anticipate installation activities and ensure:

  • Material is complete and on-site

  • Required tools and equipment are available

  • Installation is coordinated with site trades

  • Coordinate with owner’s representative in existing facilities

  • Schedule efficient use of equipment.

  • Upon activation of a system, notify the GC or property owner of emergency shut down and draining procedures.

  • Schedule tests with AHJ and ensure signoff and acceptance of authorization to leave in service is returned to the project manager.

  • Conduct weekly tool-box talks

  • Collect and review daily JHA’s

  • Collect and review inspections reports (PPE, fall protection, ladder, etc.)

  • Maintain daily logs including RFI and change order follow-up

  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship for installation team

  • Review installation quality and document deficiencies for remediation

While we hold our sprinkler fitters to a high standard and high level of accountability; this is a reciprocal relationship where the sprinkler operations team has the same accountability to ensure you’re supported and provided with all the requirements to successfully deliver your project.

The mechanism for obtaining support should be through the following channels:

Construction Foreman

  • Technical and installation support.
  • Approval for tools & equipment.
  • Approval for additional manpower.
  • Communication regarding CFLS or site-specific safety requirements.
  • On-site personnel conflicts.
  • On-site installation conflicts.
  • Approval for all human resource related matters (ie. holidays, leave of absence, letter of employment history).

Project Manager / Coordinator

  • Comprehensive project specific foreman’s package.
  • Scope clarification.
  • Up-to-date, quality working drawings.
  • Communication of project changes impacting installation scope of work or schedule.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter (Red Seal Standard is an asset).
  • A member of local 254 in good standing is an asset.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labour to include carrying and moving equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Majority of work all above head
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Read and understand construction blueprints, diagrams, and specifications used in installation activities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
