Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be registered or eligible (within 6 months) for registration as a professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Must have a Bachelor-level degree in Engineering (Civil) or equivalency recognized by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's licence and be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province by ground and/or airtransportation
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer months.
  • Must be able to work extended hours for periods of time as projects demands

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Directly related experience with roadway design and construction.
  • Experience with contract preparation.
  • Experience in financial tracking, reporting and expenditure control as it relates to project management.
  • Knowledge of human resource practices (i.e. training and development, coaching, labour relations, conflict resolution, etc.).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with other employees, the general public,contractors, provincial departments, agencies and stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and organize staff.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills.

Duties:

The Senior Highway Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the Senior Highway Construction Engineer in the delivery of the Region Highway Capital Infrastructure Program. Performs engineering activities from planning through preliminary design, detailed design and construction; provides specialized engineering advice & technical guidance; completes highway design of multiple major & minor projects; and is responsible for contract administration and engineering activities of multiple major and minor projects, including management of staff and resources.
