Patent Practice:
Caldwell’s patent team delivers end-to-end services including patent drafting, prosecution, portfolio strategy, and enforcement. With deep experience across a range of technical disciplines such as software, medical devices, energy systems, mechanical and electrical engineering, the team helps clients develop strong, defensible patent assets aligned with commercial objectives. We represent clients before the USPTO, and global IP offices, offering cross-border coordination and strategic insight.
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Patent Attorney or Patent Agent licensed in Ontario to join our growing team. The position is ideal for a self-starter with a strong engineering background and at least five years of experience in patent law.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, file, and prosecute Canadian and international patent applications.
- Provide strategic advice on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement matters.
- Manage patent portfolios for clients across a variety of technical sectors.
- Coordinate with foreign counsel on international patent filings and strategy.
- Conduct prior art searches, invalidity analyses, and risk assessments.
- Advise startups and established companies on IP strategy and commercialization.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across jurisdictions.
Requirements:
- Licensed Canadian Patent Agent or Ontario-based IP Attorney in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of patent prosecution experience.
- Degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Strong analytical, writing, and client service skills.
- Ability to manage complex patent portfolios and deadlines independently.
