Role Overview
Procurement Specialists at Spearhead play a primary role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, supplies, and services necessary for projects. The role is integral to the successful execution of various projects as it ensures that all required resources are sourced and delivered in alignment with project specifications, budget constraints, and quality standards.
Working closely with external suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders, Procurement Specialists collaborate to understand Spearhead and project needs and translate them into actionable procurement strategies.
In addition to procurement planning and execution, this role also involves careful management of supplier relationships to foster long-term partnerships that contribute to Spearhead's ongoing success. The Procurement Specialist must ensure that all orders are placed promptly, products are delivered on time, and any issues regarding quality, pricing, or logistics are resolved swiftly to avoid disruptions to project timelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leverage Spearhead's buying power to optimize costs, access new suppliers, reduce lead times, and guarantee supply to meet project deadlines
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential suppliers to meet procurement needs
- Establish logistics of delivery schedules, monitor progress, and contact suppliers to resolve problems
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality and delivery timelines
- Identify high impact cost reduction opportunities
- Collaborate with Finance team to meet budget targets and reconcile purchases in a timely manner
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand material requirements and specifications
- Work with project teams to schedule and track spending against project budgets
- Oversee Spearhead's stock inventory program
- Lead testing and implementation of the new procurement software system to enhance operational efficiency
- Work collaboratively within the procurement department to evaluate and optimize existing policies, processes, and workflows
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing setting
- Extensive experience with wood product procurement, including lumber grading, species specifications, and supplier networks
- Proven expertise in procurement software testing, evaluation, and implementation
- Proficiency in purchasing and accounting software
- Knowledge of timber framing and steel construction material specifications
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
- Experience with technology system rollouts and change management processes
Schedule and Working Conditions
- Ability to work 8:30-5:00, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day
- Ability to work on-site at Spearhead offices
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a regular basis
- Ability to work sitting or standing at a desk for work shifts
Compensation
- Pay range estimate is CAD$65,000 - CAD$85,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Extended Health and Dental benefits
- Weekly Indemnity Insurance
