About the role

About the Job:

Reporting to the Manager of the Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter, the Supervisor of the Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to staff at the Men’s shelter.

The individual’s main responsibilities include hiring, motivating, and supporting staff/client’s wellbeing, establishing, reviewing, and maintaining the program’s service delivery outcomes, and encouraging positive change/innovation in their teams.

They will be responsible for a large team of professionals (PT, FT, etc.) in a 24/7 environment. The individual will ensure that strategic goals established by the Program Manager are translated into practical action and that relationships are maximized between clients, employees, and community partners.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ensuring the safety and wellness of the staff and residents.
  • Task delegation, supporting disciplinary action, and/or direction to staff
  • Provide input and evaluation of frontline staff performance evaluations through regular one-to-one supervision meetings with staff.
  • Support the recruitment process for potential team members and provide input on the selection process
  • Ensure operational needs are met through oversight of schedule
  • Ensure staff adhere to policies and procedures
  • Assist in program planning, program monitoring, achievement of service targets, and development of the annual work plan/program goals
  • Maintain a conducive environment to allow for psychological stabilization in a person-centered program that operates 24/7
  • Provide direction to develop individual person-centered service plans addressing the immediate short-term needs with a focus on individualized housing plans
  • Liaise with community support and partners
  • Act as the On-Call responder for other 24/7 programs
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team to provide housing stability support
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Mission and Values and promote that same commitment within the team
  • Ensure appropriate records are kept and make sure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards
  • Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety
  • Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent
  • 1+ years Supervising and/or Managing employees
  • 3+ years Supporting Individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, communication, leadership, crisis management
  • Strong knowledge of Housing First Principles
  • Experience working with men experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Ability to apply principles of housing first principles approach in day-to-day work and interactions with clients
  • Expertise in collaboration with healthcare, housing and government and non-government support services in the region of peel
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of SPDAT and HIFIS
  • Working knowledge of HTI is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • A vehicle, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance coverage
  • Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR
  • Training in ASIST and CPI

Reporting Function:

The Supervisor of the Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter will report to the Manager of the Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter. They will be responsible for overseeing and managing program staff and will have the authority to manage the day-to-day operations accordingly. They will work with both internal and external partners and will interact with all levels within the organization.

They will be a support system, resource, and an advocator for the team and organization.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • (7:00am – 7:30pm) Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Alternating Thursdays
  • Able to work well with internal and external clients
  • Able to drive, walk (site locations) regularly
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
  • Computer screen use (multiple screens if applicable) for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
  • Travel by vehicle to community sites for client support as required
