Workload

Pay Level

BCGEU: $71,846 - $115,129 per annum (prorated if part-time).

Starting Salary

Faculty are placed on the BCGEU salary scale based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement, to an initial maximum of $89,412 per annum

Duties:

  • Teach classes in theory and practice of hairdressing following prescribed curriculum. Work in a team environment as part of the hairdressing faculty group. Maintenance and development of curriculum as required.
  • Completes general updates on the administrative area, faculty or department website (e.g., biographies, announcements, important dates, course information), ensuring information is current and accurate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Hairstylist. Provincial Instructor Diploma (if in progress, maximum two years to complete) from an appropriately accredited institution. Five years recent related experience. Proficiency in all skill areas. Demonstrated superior practical skills. Pivot point training experience. Excellent interpersonal skills. Computer literacy.
  • Proven participation in trade-related professional development involving new technologies, new industry/instructional developments and trends, and supervisory experience. Proven ability in classroom management. Excellent written and oral communication skills. A high level of energy and enthusiasm. Proven positive interpersonal skills in dealing with students, staff, faculty and administration.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students returning to education. Ability to work as part of a team comprised of instructors, administrators and support staff. Familiarity with MS Office computer applications appropriate to an educational setting. The successful applicant will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience owning or operating a salon. Proven instructional experience.
