Job Description:
The successful candidate will join the perioperative team of a large community hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto Medical Academy. They will provide assistance to the Department of Anaesthesia with set up and monitoring of anaesthesia in the following areas: a busy Operating Room with 19,000 ambulatory and inpatient procedures annually including, oncology, acute care surgery, ophthalmology and pediatric services, and an obstetrical department with 5000 deliveries per year. The Department of Anesthesia includes expertise in regional anaesthesia with the current development of a regional block room facility. The Anaesthesia Assistant will provide quality services in accordance with professional standards, hospital policies, medical directives and physician orders and the strategic vision of the organization.
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist with case preparation including patient assessment, patient positioning, performing and assisting with intubation, anesthesia and intravenous access for surgical patients:
- Monitor anaesthetized patients in accordance with the medical directive
- Administration of appropriate medications as directed
- Ensure appropriate performance and maintenance of anaesthesia related equipment
- Participate in quality improvement monitoring and other initiatives perioperative program
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary perioperative team with reporting accountability to perioperative manager with professional accountability to Chief Anesthesia
Qualifications:
- Certified Anaesthesia Assistant
- A member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario or the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Possess a current B.C.L.S., NRP, and A.C.L.S.
- Minimum three years experience as an RT or AA
Ability to teach Respiratory Therapy students
- Superior organization and project management skills
- Must be able to work under pressure and in emergency situations
