Job description
Job Title: Instructor
Reports to: Executive Director
Job Description: Do you want to work with youth and teach them valuable skills needed in the workforce. We are looking for a Part-time instructor for our Ready to Work Youth program. An individual with a background in electrical or plumbing would be an asset. This individual would work 21 hours (three days) per week. Hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm.
Instructors work directly with youth facing barriers to employment in a combination of classroom, shop, and on-site settings.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in the teaching of construction skills including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing and tiling
· Serve as a mentor to the youth, and ensure daily routine is strictly followed
· Ensure all aspects of on-site work are done in accordance with the Ontario Building Code and relevant health and safety regulations.
· Keep track of all tool and equipment used on the job daily
· Teach the proper use and handling of all hand and power tools and equipment
· Assist in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills
· Participate in the development of a project- based curriculum
Qualifications:
· Minimum 7 years’ experience working in a trade-related field
· Excellent construction knowledge (preferably someone with a trade certification)
· Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment
· Experience in mentoring and training youth
-Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs, climb ladders, and other tasks that may require a certain level of physical ability
· Able to provide a police background check
