Position Overview
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Inclusion and Support Services, the Recreation Program Planner, Inclusion and Support Services is responsible for the development, planning and administrations of inclusion and of volunteer programs and services City-wide for all ages. Coordinates tasks related to program development and planning, from conceptualizing, creative planning and developing, including data entry, monitoring, maintaining and reviewing. Forecasts community needs and factoring demographics. Assists with maintenance and accuracy of the inclusion and volunteers' records management system and database through accurate data entry. Ensures a high-quality design of inclusion programs and services by reviewing historic data, trends, and other analysis to plan effective programs, maximize the number of participants and meet revenue budget targets. Through effective networks, liaises with various stakeholders to coordinate and collaborate in the development of inclusion and volunteer recreation programs, activities, and related events.
Qualifications and Experience
• Two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation Studies or a related discipline (i.e., Recreation & Leisure, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work).
• Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention/Safe Management Certification and Certified Program Planner (CPP) designation or successful in obtaining within the first 12 months of start. Required to maintain certifications.
• Four (4) years of related experience in the development of recreation programs, including two (2) years' experience in inclusive recreation programming.
• Must have High Five Principals of Healthy Child Development, or willing to obtain within the first 3 months.
• Must have Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications.
• Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Human Rights Code.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of disabilities and unique needs and related practices, and ideologies and inclusive recreation program development and administration.
• Knowledge of clerical procedures, record keeping, and modern office practices.
• Thorough knowledge of inclusive recreational programming, including design and delivery principles, standards, and best practices, and community development and engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective time management and organizational abilities, with ability for setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in data management and document handling.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to draft correspondence, reports, and presentations.
• Outstanding customer service abilities, including the skill to work collaboratively with staff teams, agencies, and external contacts.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word) and familiarity with specific City software such as Perfect Mind/Xplor Recreation, SharePoint, Teams, and social media platforms.
• Knowledge of MS Office and common software programs to produce accessible documents, presentations and materials in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
• Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends at various locations.
• A valid Ontario 'G' driver's license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
• Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability in, the City's core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
• Successful candidate(s) will be required to submit a current, clear Vulnerable Sector Check from an accredited police service, prior to commencing employment.
