As a Business Continuity & Recovery Planner in Community Preparedness, you will be responsible for developing and delivering emergency preparedness programming related to community-based disaster risk management, community education, community engagement, and risk communications. You will work with internal City partners, external partner organizations, community groups, not-for-profit organizations, volunteers, vulnerable populations, and youth groups to actively reduce their disaster risk. You will be responsible for developing strategies and leading targeted outreach programming focused on increasing levels of preparedness. Primary duties include:
- Lead the design and delivery of emergency preparedness educational programming focused on children and youth.
- Lead the design and delivery of community capacity-building programming to increase the preparedness of target groups, including vulnerable populations.
- Lead the design and delivery of educational workshops to a variety of community groups and service providers.
- Research, develop, and implement various projects related to community-based disaster management.
- Work in close consultation with business unit senior managers and leadership teams to create strategies and plans for Emergency Management Operations; ensure plans integrate into Emergency Management and Community Safety's business plans.
- Provide operational support during emergency events, including participation in Emergency Social Services (ESS) and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activities.
Qualifications
- A degree in Education, Emergency Management, Social Geography, Social Work, or related discipline and at least 4 years of related experience in a similar role.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Preference will be given to applicants who possess experience in capacity-building, community development, disaster risk management, education, and strategic planning.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- The ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit within 2 months of hire.
- Experience working in an emergency operations centre leading community programming or children and youth education will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires the ability to demonstrate initiative for excellence and continuous improvement, an aptitude for building and maintaining respectful and inclusive relationships, and a proficiency for adapting effectively to new and changing work structures and processes.

- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
