Trucking HR Canada is a national, partnership-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Canadian trucking and logistics industry to address its workforce and human resources challenges and opportunities.

Position Overview:

The Director, Projects provides management support and strategic oversight for key initiatives led by Trucking HR Canada. The successful candidate will oversee the development, implementation and successful execution of key projects including industry labour market information, recruitment and retention best practices, compliance and other and strategic workforce planning initiatives. The position involves regular supervision and support for a team of project managers as well as industry and funder liaison, proposal writing and project management.

This is a managerial position reporting to the Chief Program Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the identification, development and implementation of government-funded projects, including budget management, reporting, and project management tracking, in collaboration with other Trucking HR Canada staff
  • Manage a team of project managers both on staff and on contract.
  • Oversee project workplans, contracts, contractors, and project budgets
  • Oversee the timely preparation and submission of funder reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze federal and provincial policies as they relate to labour and human resources management, providing insights on impacts to trucking and logistics employers
  • Identify, respond and help negotiate funding proposals as required
  • Represent Trucking HR Canada, as needed, with industry stakeholders, governments, partners, advisory committees and others
  • Present, as needed, on research findings, best practices or reports to industry partners
  • Liaise with industry partners to maintain and/or develop new initiatives, partnerships, and opportunities that support Trucking HR Canada’s mandate
  • Stay abreast of industry challenges and opportunities with regards to workforce planning, HR best practices and policies
  • Stay abreast of human resources trends and impacts on industry employers

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in social sciences (political science, economics, etc.), business, management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 5 years of experience working in an association or not-for-profit setting is considered an asset
  • At least 3 years of experience managing projects and programs
  • At least 2 years experience managing a team is considered an asset
  • Experience managing multi-year contribution and grant agreements, including reporting on finances, activities and deliverables
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the road transportation and/or supply chain sector an asset
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse set of stakeholders and partners, including industry employers, government, associations and consultants
  • Knowledge of government proposal writing and negotiation
  • Demonstrated tact, judgement, diplomacy and leadership
  • Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to take a broad, long-range approach to problem-solving and decision-making that involves objective analysis, thinking ahead and planning
  • Ability to phrase complicated issues and concepts in simple language
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and change priorities quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong writing skills (primarily in English, French capability would be considered an asset)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Canada (regularly) and the United States (occasionally).
