About the role
Some Of What You Will Do The Senior Manager will be a leader and driver on the Operational Excellence Team, playing a significant role supporting business growth with a constant focus on improving existing and future state operations. The Senior Manager will support the creation of and lead the execution of the strategic objectives, driving ownership of key deliverables across Staples 298 stores, and central support office, working hand in hand with multiple partners to ensure flawless execution of operational tasks, while driving conversion on traffic and programs simplification across the organization. This leader will use complex problem-solving skills, manage multiple high visibility priorities, and maintain a keen attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous situations. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate achievement in driving successful projects, developing, coaching and mentoring team members, and exhibiting strong interpersonal and communication skills with multiple business partners across many geographies in Canada.
Specifically, You Will Retail Operations Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead a team responsible for building, organizing, and enabling Staples retail operations standards across 298 stores nationwide.
- Empower store teams by driving program simplification and provide stores with the tools, processes, and resources to execute flawlessly, improve conversion, control costs, and maximize profitability.
- Create and provide SME support in building retail objectives and best practice standards which support the retail operations
- Identify and prioritize projects and oversee completion to maximize the contributions to company objectives.
- Shape and implement retail process strategies aligned with Staples Canada's financial and strategic goals to support the overall vision; partner with various teams and departments across the organization to ensure these are rolled out effectively.
- Partner with regional operations and store teams on the implementation of strategic action plans to capture opportunities for in-store efficiencies, sales growth or margin gain.
- Conducting in-store visits and evaluating opportunities and assess alignment and integration of all retail standards and superior quality of service.
- Lead continuous improvement projects and enterprise-wide initiatives focused on store operations, while managing and resolving cross-departmental store inquiries to ensure clarity and timely support.
- Develop training and certification tools and build strong partnerships with field leadership to drive consistent standards, process improvements, labor productivity, and exceptional customer experience.
Technical Project Management
- Oversee the full lifecycle of an in-house mobile application used by store teams, ensuring it streamlines operations and enhances efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, merchandising, supply chain, finance, and field) to align app enhancements with evolving retail needs, operational priorities, and field feedback.
Some Of What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of multi-unit retail operations experience at a mid to senior level, with an emphasis on direct retail operations, process and efficiencies
- Management experience in the Canadian retail industry
- Prior experience building, training, and driving teams through challenging assignments while executing development plans
- Nice to have: Experience leading the development of mobile applications for inventory management or store operations, with a focus on driving efficiency and streamlining frontline processes.
- Proven track record of delivering process and efficiencies, and results in a high growth, continuous change and results-oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional organizational relationships through formal and informal networks
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and technology development or implementation projects in a retail or multi-unit environment.
- Strong knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
