About The Position The successful candidate will work as part of the Technical Team to handle data review, data package assembly and data upload. The role will assist with client enquiries, perform corrective action investigations, and EDD template maintenance. The candidate will also provide technical assistance, training and mentoring to junior organic instrument analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide secondary technical review and approve instrument data (organics )
  • Provide decisions and action plans in cases of non-conforming results and other issues
  • Provide technical advice to Instrument analysts
  • Assist with communication to clients to determine the technical requirements for EDDs
  • Review and edit data packages, ensuring format requirements are met
  • Finalize data package reports and appendices
  • Assist with client enquiries related to reported results
  • Perform CAR investigations to determine the root cause and devise preventative actions
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable methods
  • Assist with method development and assist with method improvements
  • Assist with method documentation review and updating
  • Advise on use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures while ensuring quality
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading)
  • Knowledge of ultra-trace organic analysis using GC/MS, GC/HRMS, GC/MS/MS
  • Knowledge of USEPA methodologies and reporting is an asset
  • Organized with high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a client-focused orientation

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry, or related discipline is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in reviewing complex environmental chemistry data (e.g., HRMS)

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks such as keyboarding
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
