About the Role:
One of our clients, a leading energy infrastructure company, is seeking an Operations Advisor – Projects to provide critical operational guidance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant delivery of gas transportation and compression projects for a 6-month contract. This role acts as the key liaison between project teams, operations, and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with operational best practices, regulatory standards, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Operator in Charge (OIC) , interfacing with electrical utilities, gas control teams, compressor station operations, and third-party HV maintenance crews.
- Provide operational leadership during project development, design, and execution to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Represent Operations’ interests by collaborating with project teams and stakeholders (internal/external) to align deliverables with operational requirements.
- Oversee Operational Readiness & Assurance (ORA) activities, ensuring training, procedures, and maintenance plans are in place prior to handover.
- Lead commissioning and handover processes, addressing gaps in scope, funding, or timelines between Projects and Operations.
- Mitigate operational risks (cost avoidance typically >$1M) by identifying safety, process, or business impacts early in project phases.
- Support post-startup deficiency management and ensure sustainable operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- 5–10 years in Operations/Maintenance within the natural gas industry (pipelines, compression, or related infrastructure).
- Technical certification or degree (e.g., Red Seal Electrician, Electrical Technologist [ASTTBC], or Electrical Engineer [EGBC] with Class A FSR).
- Strong knowledge of gas transportation systems, industry standards, and operational best practices.
- Proven ability to prioritize competing demands in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Westcoast Operations equipment and teams.
- Field leadership experience.
- Knowledge of Management of Change (MOC), Work Management, and Commissioning/Handover processes.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid role: Primarily office-based with ~20% travel to field sites, vendor locations, and stakeholder meetings across BC.
- Safety-sensitive role requiring visits to compressor stations, pipelines, and other operational facilities.
