Trillium Health Partners (THP) is one of the largest community-based acute care facilities in Canada. Comprised of the Credit Valley Hospital, the Mississauga Hospital and the Queensway Health Centre, Trillium Health Partners serves the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto and surrounding communities and is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto.
The Genetics Laboratory at Credit Valley Hospital is seeking a Genetics Technologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing assigned tests and procedures in the Cytogenetic and Molecular Laboratories.
Responsibilities:
- Follow established lab protocols to perform routine and complex testing of various genetic conditions
- Receive training in and display competency in various cytogenetic and molecular techniques used in the lab
- Chromosome Karyotype and FISH analysis and interpretation
- Various Molecular Genetic techniques including - MLPA and Next-Generation Sequencing
- Report generation using the Lab Information System
- Lab safety and quality procedures
- Proficiency testing, test method evaluation and participation in accreditation activities
- Training of new staff and students
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of work of a Genetic Technologist in the lab
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of a recognized program for Clinical Genetics Technology, with certification in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics.
- Must be eligible for registration or registered as a member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (C.M.L.T.O)
- Minimum of 1 year related experience in a clinical Genetics laboratory is essential
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques including NGS, FISH, Microarray and Optical Genome Mapping
- Successful candidates must have demonstrated understanding of quality assurance and good laboratory practice.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Professional and capable of developing effective working relationships
- Attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of standard computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Experience in use of EPIC Beaker is an asset
- Satisfactory attendance and performance record required
