As a Design Engineer - Product, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary design team, developing cutting-edge, energy-efficient lighting products for professional markets. You will get the opportunity to work with unique and talented specialized engineers delivering innovative products to our professional customers every day.
The Design Engineer - Product plays a key role in the product development process. Following DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) approaches, you will lead cross-function project teams, draw-up technical specification and development roadmaps, drive through design – prototype – validation – improvement cycles, collaborate with production teams on trial runs and regulatory certifications, lead technical reviews and own design documentation.
The Design Engineer – Product role offers a great opportunity to leverage engineering skill sets across several disciplines such as mechanics, electronics, and optics; it also requires strong communication and team management skills: a combination of distinguishing assets for your career growth.
Essential Functions:
- Work with multidisciplinary design team to design and bring to life LED solutions to resolve customer needs across several market segments
- Transform customer requirements into PTS (Product Technical Specification), upon which define NPI (New Product Introduction) project scope, and execute on the optimal design roadmap
- Formulate DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and validation plan, drive through entire testing – analysis - improvement practices based on DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) approaches
- Work alongside with cross-function team, to solve technical challenges every day
- Partner with program manager, to assure NPI progress is on track in terms of scope, timeline, cost, and resource
- Interface with commercial team, to have technical challenges well communicated and understood by the business
- Collaborate with sourcing and supply chain team, to ensure satisfactory and the most cost-effective materials and contract manufacturers are sourced
- Work with manufacturing and quality team on production trail runs, guide team to ensure manufacturability and optimal yield rates can be achieved
- Support systems and safety team, to accomplish all required regulatory certifications
- Lead technical reviews, own design documentation
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide technical consultations to commercial team, build up and deliver MVP (Minimum Viable Product) samples
- Support in solving operation issues, such as unexpected production yield rate deterioration, supplier quality issue, BOM (Bill of Materials) component obsolescence, etc.
- Keep abreast of market trends and emerging technologies, propose and patent novel design concepts

- Individual must be a self-starter, creative and strategic thinker who can navigate in a very dynamic environment
- Detail oriented and strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent collaboration skills, ability to work well in a team setting
- Understand urgency and the ability to take input and prioritize work as appropriate
- Excellent time and bandwidth management skills
- Ability to multitask while maintaining progress
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, physics) or equivalent
- 4+ years of experience in similarly situated position
- Knowledge of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) principles and DoE (Design of Experiments)
- Experience with data analysis software tools (such as Crystal Ball, Minitab, ReliaSoft, etc.)
- Knowledge of LED lighting products design is preferred
- Experience with product design and simulation software tools (such as Solidworks, Altium, LightTools, etc.)
- Hands-on experience of electrical / mechanical / optical products assembly and testing in lab environment
- Must have experience with Windows OS & Microsoft Office products
Preferred:
- Desirable to have a background in LED lighting and fixture technology
- Prior experience in product design and updates supporting immediate customer-facing needs
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliances (such as UL, FCC, CSA, etc.)
- Familiar with volume production environment and quality control protocols (such as PCBA, plastic injection molding, etc.)
- Program management experience and training preferred
