Location: Brampton, ON

Type of Role: Mix of in office and onsite at retail locations

Reports to: Sales & Marketing Manager

Status: Full-Time, Salaried

My Client is a Canadian-owned and privately held manufacturer and distributor of a wide variety of premium desserts under their own brand and private label across North America. Currently in its 35th year of business, the Company specializes in premium cakes and ready-to-use dessert fillings made from quality ingredients under the industry’s highest food safety standards and their delicious, highly sought-after products can be found at many of your favourite retailers.

About the Role

Reporting to the Sales & Marketing Manager , the Field Sales & Merchandising Specialist will be responsible for being the eyes and ears of the Company at the retail level to ensure the Company’s products are being marketed to consumers in the best way possible and as per marketing guidelines and agreements. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting regular store visits within a defined territory (Hamilton to the west, Oshawa to the east and the GTA) to ensure accuracy in product placement and merchandising according to planograms; gather competitive data for the sales and R&D teams; create regular sales reports; assist with store promotions and onsite events, maintain a strong and productive working relationship with retail store Managers and staff and seek out opportunities to drive sales on several assigned key customer accounts – all while representing the Company in the field in the most professional and respectful manner possible.

About our Top Candidate

The top candidate for this role wlll have the following education, experience and skills:

  • Completion of high school and a post-secondary education in Business Administration, Marketing or other related discipline; (a combination of education and related work experience may be considered);
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct field marketing and/or field retail merchandising experience, preferably within a food manufacturing and retail environment;
  • A keen eye and inquisitive nature to gather competitive data from each store visit that will provide qualitative insights for the Company’s R&D and sales teams;
  • Highly motivated with the ability to uncover new opportunities with key accounts to increase product sales;
  • Ability to work independently on the road using own vehicle with a strong knowledge of the roads/highways in/around the GTA and a clean and safe driving record;
  • Highly proficient and tech-savvy using Microsoft Office (Outlook; Word; Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Working knowledge of retail merchandising and store planograms for product placement;
  • Highly organized with excellent and efficient time management and organizational skills;
  • Excellent, professional and respectful interpersonal, relationship-building and verbal and written communication skills;
  • Great sense of humour, energetic and able to maintain a calm demeanor even during stressful situations;
  • Resourceful problem solver, creative thinker and strong attention to details;
  • Flexibility of schedule for onsite store promotions and special events, as required;
  • Flexibility for the coverage of additional store visits located outside of assigned territory, as required.
