Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist Consultant will work as a member of the Specialized Learning Supports school-linked teams to provide collaborative transdisciplinary educational support to school-aged students.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • providing classroom-based support to children in Kindergarten through Grade 12 who have diverse learning needs

  • providing consultative services to students and families focusing on student success in their educational environment

  • providing recommendations to support the educational programming of diverse learners including demonstrating, modeling and coaching

  • administering, interpreting and analyzing formal and informal assessments to determine current level of functional skills and impact of skill level on educational programming and student success

  • providing services that incorporate evidence-based practice, including assessing student's participation in the school environment

  • reviewing medical information and professional medical reports to assist in educational programming

  • implementing targeted and specialized occupational therapy strategies with school staff to support student success

  • collaborating with classroom teachers, outside agencies and student's families to coach school staff to implement strategies that increase student functioning at home, school and in the community

Education/Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy

  • registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists

  • a minimum of three years related experience including classroom-based service with children and youth with special needs

  • excellent communication, collaboration and consulting skills

  • advanced skills in diagnosis and program intervention

Rate of Pay

$50.99 - $65.21 per hour
