Position Title
Simulation Technician
Position Summary
The School of Health and Wellness is currently seeking a permanent full-time Simulation Technician to support the team.
The Simulation Technician works collaboratively with the Lab staff in the School of Health and Wellness in preforming duties that will enhance student learning across programs with specialty in a simulation environment. The main purpose of this position is to assist the Simulation Lab Coordinator with day-to-day operations in a simulation environment while also assisting with school lab organizations and upkeep.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Runs simulations and SIM events, including the technical and voice requirements to enhance student learning

Sets-up simulation equipment and ensures the labs are ready for simulation learning experiences
-
Creates moulage, creating realistic body fluids, scars, etc. to assist with student learning
-
Understands principles of simulation learning and is familiar with all types of simulation, e.g. low to high fidelity
-
Understands basic anatomy and physiology in order to run simulations accurately depending on what the students are doing
-
Performs and/or recommends general cleaning in the labs
-
Assists with the movement of lab equipment from one lab area to another
-
Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment
-
Participates in and contributes to a safe environment in the labs.

Ensures a safe and healthy work and learning environment, complies with polytechnic health and safety policies, practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health & safety legislation and regulation
Required Qualifications
-
Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent in a Health-related discipline
-
One to two years of related work experience
-
Technical and mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment
-
Safety courses such as WHMIS and OHS are essential
-
Proficient in computers and computer applications
-
Ability to lift, bend and move heavy equipment essential
-
Demonstrated critical thinking skills
-
Basic anatomy, vital signs knowledge required
-
Ability to work in a demanding environment and ability to prioritize
-
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
-
Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in a Health related discipline
-
General healthcare knowledge and healthcare terminology is an asset
-
Experience of training in the art of moulage is an asset
-
Healthcare background preferred
