About the role
Job Description Controls Designer & Integrator are responsible for working with our internal teams and clients performing custom automated equipment and AMR programming and integration tasks within a multi-disciplined team environment. Generally involves the application of the following technologies; PLCs, HMIs, Vision Systems, Robots, Servo Systems, Industrial Networks, databases and PC based software applications.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Design and implement PLC and/or PC based programs specific to customer and project requirements
- Develop controls architecture and code for partial or wholesale changes, as well as new system development
- Specify, test and qualify control hardware components in conjunction with other design teams
- Programming and fleet commissioning of AMR technology
- Develop or progress internal software tools using C#, VBA, and SQL
- Provide written summaries and reports reflecting current and desired states as well as recommendations
- Create, procure and/or manage electrical schematics related to the hardware design
- Manage drawing packages and documentation
- Perform efficiency studies including OEE and Failure analysis
- Complete all required internal time reporting and customer update reporting
- Travel as required to customer site for installation, commissioning and training tasks
- Track and record all expenses such as job costs and travel
- Ensure that all activities are performed with highest ethical standards and in compliance with RAMP Inc business policies
- Adhere to both internal and customer site health and safety rules and procedures
- Other duties as required
Essential Qualifications
- Strong people skills and the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form at all levels
- 3-5 years experienced in all aspects of controls system design including motion control and vision systems
- Familiarity with quality systems such as SPC and Six Sigma
- Electrical Engineering designation or College technical program related to automation, electrical design or robotics.
- Ability to travel internationally for periods up to 2-3 weeks
- Must have significant knowledge and practical experience in two or more of the following areas or some practical knowledge in many of the following areas:
- Wiring panels and automated machinery
- Programming PLCs & HMIs
- Programming Vision Systems
- Programming Robots
- Programming Servo Systems
- Programming using C++, VB in a Microsoft environment, preferably .Net
- Database design and implementation
- Implementation of Industrial Networks
- Machine Safety
Autonomy and Authority
- Works as a fully qualified professional without detailed supervision, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications. Difficult, complex or unusual matters are referred to more senior authority.
- Generally responsible for the design and programming of complete lines or stand-alone machines
- May guide and monitor the work of other more junior engineers and technical staff working within the controls department or on the same projects
- Provides input to management with respect to the evolution of company and department technical standards and designs
Special Requirements (physical demands and work environment): Must be physically able to work with automated machinery from standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling and crouching positions. Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments (oil, dust, etc). May need to lift and/or move moderate weight.
