Job Description Director, People & Culture Business Partner About Us Wittington Investments, Limited, is a private holding company owning a variety of investments and businesses in iconic Canadian companies. Including investments in Loblaw Companies Limited, Choice Properties REIT and ownership of Holt Renfrew. Wittington is also the General Partner of Wittington Ventures, a venture capital fund investing in technology-oriented start-ups. About The Role The Director, People & Culture Business Partner, plays a critical role in both operational and strategic HR at Wittington. Reporting to the Managing Director, People & Culture, the Director is a highly knowledgeable HR professional with deep business partner, compensation, recruitment, systems and best practices background.
This role is central to enabling Wittington to achieve our talent & culture goals! We are in search of a key team member to help drive our People & Culture strategies. The Director supports a client portfolio in all P&C areas, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, internal communications and performance management. Working closely with the business, they will identify organizational needs and support leaders in delivering client-focused, practical solutions that align and strengthen Wittington’s culture
What will you do?
- Act as strategic, hands-on HRBP - sound judgment supported by human resource acumen to lead the development and implementation of meaningful solutions for the client group
- Work collaboratively with leaders on driving talent management strategies at pace - develop proactive recruitment practices to attract & retain key talent – focus on the development of high potential & high performing colleagues – help leaders manage talent pipelines to ensure the right people are in the right job for succession planning and current & future business needs
- Manage compensation practices (base, annual & long-term incentives) in support of competitive compensation design – work closely with leaders on compensation decisions for their groups
- Play a leadership role to recognize barriers to success and facilitate proactive solutions that support a performance driven culture - support leaders on talent reviews, performance management, succession and building a talent pipeline
- Serve as a coach and confidante to leaders around people and organizational issues, leadership development, and act as an advocate for colleagues - support needs related to employee relations
- Remain current on HR legislation, making recommendations for enhancements to existing policies and practices – support the development of policies & related training
- Collaborate with P&C team and leadership on learning and development initiatives - Partner with leadership on process improvements and facilitating change
- Support annual engagement survey process and associated departmental/corporate action plans
- Well-versed Workday user – drive process/system improvements leveraging technology
- Creation of internal communication plans and deployment of companywide communications related to HR projects and culture
- Work Collaboratively with immigration legal counsel when required
- Special projects aligned to business needs as required– create project plans and implement to established delivery dates

- Strong HR & business acumen, critical thinking, professional demeanor and attitude
- Solid understanding of employment law, regulations, and best practices
- Proven multitasking skills and ability to work effectively with various stakeholders across all levels of the company – drive multiple projects forward with quality results in timely fashion
- Demonstrated expertise in preparing business cases, presentations and well thought out, accurate materials
- Excellent project management skills and internal communications
- Highly ethical, impartial, diplomatic and respectful
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in business, HR or related discipline, CHRP designation an asset
- 10+ years’ experience in a HRBP role with progressive organization - investment or financial services or best-in-class company is an asset
- Preference for specialization in compensation
- Workday expertise is highly desirable
- Excellent understanding of provincial/federal employment law, regulations, and best practices
