Grader/Heavy Equipment Operator – Road Crew

Lumby, British Columbia

Our Grader/Heavy Equipment Operators – Road Crew are experts in constructing and maintaining roads to support sustainable forestry operations. Ensuring safe access to the right place, at the right time is critical to the success of both harvesting and reforestation. We’re looking for multiple experienced Road Crew – Grader/Heavy Equipment Operators for our Southern Interior Woodlands Division. The Southern Interior Woodlands Team manages Tolko's tenure and fibre supply in the Southern Interior of British Columbia, covering an area of 953,447 hectares. We are dedicated to sustaining these areas to the benefit of all who live and work there.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • An unwavering commitment to safety.

  • Extensive experience (minimum 3 years) operating a Grader in a forest environment; gravel spreading, snow grading, road ice blading, etc.

  • Strong preference given for Steep ground experience.

  • Previous heavy equipment experience is preferred.

  • Ability to read and implement road plans is required.

  • Understanding and ability to operate to grade construction, stream crossing installation and excavation specific details.

  • A valid driver’s license is required; Class 1 with air brake endorsement preferred.

  • Experience with iPads and mapping applications is an asset.

  • An understanding of forest policy, guidelines, and regulations is an asset.

  • A demonstrated ability to meet performance measures.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team collaboration skills.

  • Preference given to candidates with previous forestry experience in the Southern Interior**.**

In this role you will:

  • Operate heavy equipment to safely undertake road construction and complete maintenance activities in the field.

  • Work closely with Woodlands Operations Supervisors to follow building activities.

  • Work with other operators to effectively construct and maintain roads.

  • Work in a safe, timely, cost effective and professional manner.
