The Indigenous and Northern Relations Branch of the Ministry of Government Relations has an exciting permanent full-time opportunity available in La Ronge, Saskatchewan for a Community Development Liaison. Reporting to the Director, the position is responsible to:
-
Analyze and recommend potential approaches to support the development of northern communities.
-
Liaise between local leadership and senior governments on priorities for human services, social development and labour force.
-
Support and advise on local projects and planning in northern communities with a broad range of partners.
-
Build community capacity through mentorship and advice, and link communities with needed resources, tools and training to support long-term improvements.
-
Promote strong citizen involvement in setting priorities, planning, and subsequent activities.
-
Represent the Branch and the Ministry in inter-ministry and inter-governmental committee to advance development strategies, initiatives and opportunities in northern Saskatchewan.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is expected to have experience in:
-
Project and process management.
-
Community outreach, communication, and building collaboration through strong relationships.
-
Developing, implementing and evaluating community-based projects.
-
Building local interest and skills to support community development.
-
Interest-based problem solving.
-
Working with First Nations, Métis or northern communities.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required to achieve the above is obtained through:

A university degree in administration or public policy, business/commerce, social development, project management or community planning.
-
Communications and collaboration skills would be an asset.

An equivalent amount of education and experience will also be considered.
A valid Saskatchewan class 5 driver’s license is required as the position will travel independently to different northern communities.

Computer skills – word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, Internet-based research, e-mail.
You will be:
- Able to use good judgment when dealing with contentious issues and stakeholders;
- Proactive in anticipating issues and opportunities, and recommending innovative solutions to achieve results;
- Able to work in a First Nations, Métis or northern environment;
- Flexible and adaptable, to adjust to multiple priorities and expectations; and
- Thorough, conscientious and attentive to detail to ensure quality work.
