About the role

Canadian Tire Corporation is seeking a Senior Writer to join its Corporate Communications team. The successful candidate will be a seasoned writer with experience as a published journalist or professional ghostwriter, skilled at crafting narratives that educate, inspire, and entertain in an authentic and consistent voice.

What You’ll Do

  • Articulate CTC’s True North strategy through compelling communications that educate, inspire, and entertain stakeholders.
  • Develop engaging speeches, scripts, report letters, social media posts, and other corporate communications that authentically capture the voice of CTC’s executive leaders.
  • Lead the end-to-end research, writing, and delivery of communications by collaborating with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and teams across CTC.
  • Translate complex information into digestible narratives.
  • Support the development of media materials, including key messages, FAQs, and spokesperson briefings, as needed.
  • Review and edit communications materials to ensure consistency, clarity, and precision.
  • Be a collaborative team player who can work independently to deliver exceptional quality work, with meticulous attention to detail, under tight timelines.
  • Manage and coach one senior direct report.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in journalism or corporate communications; professional writing experience is required, such as being a published journalist or ghostwriter.
  • Post-secondary education in Journalism, Political Science, Communications/Public Relations, or a related liberal arts/humanities degree.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to craft a compelling narrative and authentically capture voice.
  • Demonstrated track record in working with others and ability to interact effectively with executive leadership; experience working in a corporate environment and/or directly with executive leadership is considered an asset.
  • Impeccable command of grammar, punctuation, and style, with the ability to edit for clarity, consistency, and tone.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver materials on time in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • A creative, continuous learner who welcomes and offers candid feedback.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required on occasion to support business needs.
