The location in Port Mellon, (British Columbia, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Human Resources Specialist. This job is full-time permanent.

The Human Resources Specialist position ensures the effective integration of human resources and health & safety functions. In conjunction with the Site and Human Resource leadership, they have responsibility and accountability for managing employee relations functions, benefits administration, policies, procedures and program at the work site. This position manages confidential and highly sensitive legal documents and participates in the management of employee accountability including discipline.

The Human Resources Specialist position is also responsible for the coordination of occupational health and safety programs to ensure the wellbeing of those on Site. The incumbent provides guidance to all levels of management to promote a culture that ensures the highest standards of safety and occupational health.

Areas of Responsibility

Employee Relations

  • Fosters and promotes positive employee and labour relations
  • Establishes and maintains constructive communication and effective working relationships with management
  • Provides advice on employee relations issues to human resources leadership, management and supervisors.
  • Participate in employee counseling meetings, including disciplinary meetings.
  • Counsels’ management on resolving employee issues.
  • Liaise with payroll, and safety department to resolve issues.
  • Participate in Case Management of WCB and STD return to work programs.
  • Administers group benefits plans, which includes ensuring all eligible employees are enrolled on time, and ensure the processing benefit changes,
  • Orientates new employees on the benefit package and pension

Safety

  • Promotes a safety culture that encourages individual responsibility and personal commitment.
  • Helps motivates team leaders, supervisors, and employees to identify unsafe conditions or acts; and assists in implementing changes to prevent injuries. Provide support to the site management team with respect to health and safety needs and issues.
  • Acts as a participant and key resource for the JOHSC (Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee).
  • Assists supervisory staff in corrective actions resulting from analysis of accident and incident reports, safety statistics, audits and inspections in conjunction with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
  • Supports management and employees’ activities to facilitate continuous improvement in the areas of occupational health, safety and loss prevention.

General

  • Liaise with payroll, and safety department to resolve issues, and internal and external legal as required.
  • Will use SAP to assist in the ordering and receiving of parts and services to support the successful operation of the site.
  • All other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Education / Technical / Experience

  • A university degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline such as human resources, business, etc. A CHRP would be an asset.
  • A CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CHSC (Certified Health & Safety Consultant) designation would be an asset.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety in an Industrial setting.
  • Superior investigative skills and ability.
  • Experience managing and/or leading employee relations activities in an industrial environment.
  • Proven strategic thinker with the ability to respond with comprehensive, proactive labour strategy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent ability to manage crucial conversations and crucial confrontations.
  • Demonstrated excellent conflict resolution skills, both as facilitator and mediator.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and drive change in a complex organization.
  • Proven ability to engage others.
  • Experience in Emergency Response programs such as fire department involvement, hazmat training, or incident command would be an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable in a small team environment and interacting with senior level managers.
  • Demonstrated high standards of integrity.
  • Effectively lead, participate, communicate and collaborate in corporate initiatives.
  • Possess situational awareness of surroundings with the ability to adapt to new and changing environments,
  • A high sense of urgency with regards to making safety improvements.
  • Ability to handle complexity as well as balance the big picture and details given scope & scale of role.
  • The ability to be decisive while understanding organizational sensitivity.
  • Experience with a Purchasing and Inventory control system.

Salary information: $65,000.00 to $80,000.00 CAD per year.
