Position: Housekeeping Aide PFT

Status: Permanent Full-Time

2024 Salary: $22.73 to $27.09 per hour

Location: Maple View Lodge, Athens, Ontario

Union: OPSEU 494 (Maple View Lodge) bargaining unit

The provincial government has approved an expansion of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville owned Maple View Lodge, long-term care home, located in Athens, Ontario. The highly anticipated expansion will see the addition of 132 class – “A” beds from the current existing 60-bed facility we see today.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Support Services Supervisor, the Housekeeping Aide will be responsible for cleaning all areas of the building and outside area of home, as well as laundry responsibilities. This position will provide a combination of functions; a clean infectious free environment, quality laundering and return of personal clothing/items.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 education

  • Good interpersonal skills combined with excellent verbal communication skills

  • Good physical health

  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work independently within a team environment.

  • Have flexibility with work schedule, willing to accept shifts on short notice.

  • Ability to exercise good judgement

  • Demonstrate the ability to organize work routines efficiently and effectively to ensure work requirements are based on priority and in accordance with accepted practices and standards

  • Previous experience in housekeeping and laundry would be considered an asset.

  • Previous work experience dealing with the elderly and public would be considered an asset

  • WHMIS training an asset

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:**

  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ministry of Health Long Term Care standards, and Residents’ Bill of Rights.

  • Performs housekeeping, laundry duties in accordance to work routines and position responsibilities consistent with operational policies. Example of duties: general housekeeping, deep cleaning of rooms, disinfecting in accordance to infection control needs/standards, general and remedial floor care, vacuuming, waste management, cleaning of bathrooms/tub rooms, bedrooms, closets, halls, windows, care of curtains; sorting, washing, drying, folding, labelling and distribution of resident personal laundry items and Maple View Lodges items, etc...

  • Stays abreast with departmental operating procedures and protocols

  • Uses an assortment of chemicals i.e. soaps, bleaches, stain removal products, cleaning products while maintaining knowledge of chemicals used in a safe and timely manner as per label and in accordance with MSDS sheets.

  • Removes garbage, laundry and cleans containers from all areas of the building

  • Assists in maintaining an organized, safe and clean work/ storage area

  • Operates some housekeeping, laundry and nursing equipment i.e. carts, mops, vacuum cleaners, auto floor scrubber, upholstery cleaner washer, dryer, iron, labelling machine, ladders, step stools, moving of furniture daily, pushing wheelchairs, and geriatric chairs, garbage and launder chutes and cardboard compactor.

  • Ensures that all residents laundered personal items are neatly folded/hung and returned to the residents’ room –drawer, closets, storage area as required

  • Physical demands of the position include pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, walking, climbing, standing, working in confined spaces is required.

  • Orientates new staff to duties

  • Maintains safety, effectiveness, functioning and cleanliness of equipment

  • Actively carries out observes monitors and informs Environmental Services Manager of problems/needs associated with job functions and makes suggestions for more efficient/effective provision of service.

  • Assists in monitoring the availability of adequate supplies for the department and utilizes supplies efficiently.

  • Responsible for restocking assigned areas and work areas with the required supplies, soap, toilet tissue, garbage bags, paper towels, etc

  • Participate in staff meetings, in-services, workshops, education as required ie. WHMIS, Fire & Safety training, etc

  • Ensures that all cleaning products are labelled and legible with the proper WHMIS labels.

  • Responsible for using Personal Protective Equipment as required ensuring safe practices.

  • Will accept extra duties and scheduling changes as required in the absence of other staff.

  • Maintains personal health, hygiene and appearance.

  • Maintains documentation within the department as required.

  • Gives support to all areas of the department.
