Job Summary: The Automation Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems to enhance production efficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs. This role requires a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, automation technology, and continuous improvement methodologies. The ideal candidate will be innovative, detail-oriented, and skilled in problem-solving with a focus on improving operational processes through automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation Design & Implementation: Develop, implement, and oversee automated systems, robotics, and equipment in the manufacturing process. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design automated solutions that meet production goals and quality standards.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for automation. Develop strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and safety while reducing waste and minimizing downtime. Develop and integrate automated jigs and fixtures into manufacturing workflows to enhance production efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage automation projects from concept to completion, ensuring that projects stay on schedule and within budget. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for the selection and acquisition of equipment.
  • Design and Deployment of EOL Testing Systems: Develop and implement automated end-of-line testing solutions to verify product functionality, quality, and compliance with industry standards before shipment.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues with automated systems. Establish and implement preventive maintenance schedules for automated machinery to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production output, quality, and cost savings.
  • Training & Support: Provide training and technical support to manufacturing staff on the proper use of automated equipment. Create documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all automation systems comply with industry safety standards and regulations. Conduct risk assessments and develop safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on automation. Experience with robotics, PLC programming, CNC machines, and other automated systems is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for design and layout of automated equipment.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, and other control systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, sensors, vision systems, and automation software.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented and analytical mindset.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, and engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP systems, data analysis tools, and industrial IoT.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations related to automated systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on the production floor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • May require occasional travel to other company locations or vendor sites, including Finland and Mexico.
