Position Summary
The Senior Residence Worker is the shift lead responsible for the safe and effective provision of youth programming activities and service delivery in the Full Time Attendance Program (FTAP), including providing orientation, training, work direction and guidance to frontline staff. Foundational to this role is youth relationship-building and behavior management, supporting participants through a trauma informed lens, placing priority on participant safety, empowerment and skill development. This position demonstrates the active pursuit of intentional practice with a focus on outcomes and results. The Senior Residence Worker leads by example applying the Agency’s Core Values and Code of Ethics to guide decision-making and professional behaviour.
Position Details
Wages: $26/hour
Hours: 36 hours/week
Shift: Friday to Monday
Work Schedule: Friday/Monday: 3pm-11pm & Saturday/Sunday: 1pm-11pm
Location: Various locations throughout the Greater Victoria region
Benefits: Extended Health coverage available after 3-month probation
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the PPC/manager in providing orientation, training, work direction and guidance to weekday staff by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, delegating daily work responsibilities, reviewing work and scheduling staff
- Acts as shift lead, supporting the operation of the residence and providing guidance to staff in the absence of the manager or as directed
- Maintains a caseload of 1-2 youth from intake to follow-up as assigned
- Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Individual Service Plans/Case Management Plans) for youth in the FTAP program. Reviews and updates service/case management plans to ensure participants needs are being met.
- Actively participates in Case Management/Care Plan meetings and service provision
- Ensures the youth is involved in the development and ongoing review of their service
- In consultation and collaboration with the PPC/manager, develops, implements and facilitates curriculum based/experiential learning opportunities for FTAP participants contributing to their individualized service plan. This includes supporting youth in managing their behaviours, developing skills and abilities and building positive relationships
- Delivers programs offering a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of children/youth
- Ensures Medication Management Procedures are followed and support youth self-administration of medications
- Supports youth in complying with probation conditions including monitoring curfew, restricted areas, substance use, no-contact orders and ensuring attendance at counseling and community service
- Identifies and supports recreational, social and/or cultural activities which will facilitate pro social engagement
- Transports youth to appointments, recreation/leisure activities, Care Families and home visits, etc. as required
- Maintains regular contact with Youth Probation Officer, other professionals and supports involved with the youth as appropriate.
- Works in-ratio as an active team member, role modelling and supporting quality program delivery and best practices
- Performs daily housekeeping duties (laundry, sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms etc.) as outlined in the daily shift tasks and responsibilities
- Follows weekly menus and prepare meals and snacks accordingly
- Performs basic building maintenance (mowing lawn, raking leaves, shoveling walkways, changing light bulbs, cleaning appliances) duties as needed
- Maintains inventory of food/cooking supplies, pantry items, cleaning supplies. Monitors supplies inventory, optimizes purchasing ROI, follows supplies ordering/purchase protocols and prepares accurate expense reporting
- Provide After-Hours Phone Support to participants and Care Families in the FTAP, Turning Point and YP3 programs, follows appropriate “After Hours” communication and documentation procedures
- Participates in the “After Hours On-Call Rotation” to provide emergency support to residential program staff, as appropriate
- Maintains contact with any youth and the youth’s Care Family, providing support, and as required crisis intervention in order to maintain residence stability
- Completes daily case management documentation for all youth in program including: case notes, forensics communications, tracking sheets, case management plans, etc.
- Implements the monthly and quarterly Health & Safety schedule, including drills, training, and licensing requirements
- Delivers activities with appropriate risk management, reducing actual risk when possible
- Assesses and plans crisis prevention in FTAP/TP/YP3 programs, utilizing appropriate crisis management strategies
- Complies with Critical Incident reporting and demonstrates knowledge of safety precautions for environmental conditions, including verbal and physical aggression
- Implements suicide risk assessments, safety planning, and response strategies for potentially dangerous situations, such as AWOL incidents or aggressive behavior

Minimum Qualifications
- Post secondary diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Recreation, Education or equivalent combination of education &experience
- 2 years’ experience supervising in a residential facility
- Basic First Aid/CPR C certification
- Knowledge of mental health and substance use
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence; clean driver’s abstract
