Job Description:
Under the direction of the Manager, Community Employment Services, the incumbent is responsible for assisting unemployed persons prepare to enter or re-enter the labour market by delivering service delivery responses that meet the unique needs of the individual.
The incumbent is responsible for assisting unemployed persons with gathering labour market and career information, assisting with building and revising resumes and cover letters, coordinating and delivering employment related workshops, tracking statistical data, meeting monthly intake and exit targets, and completing client files related to job search activities, as well as paperwork required for client support and centre operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Employment Counselling & Resource Centre Operations
- Provides information to clients on a wide variety of topics including resume and cover letter development, training opportunities and community services to support return-to-work action plans..
- Assists clients with the intake and registration process to verify client eligibility and suitability for employment services and supports.
- Completes initial intake interviews using Funder prescribed assessments to determine work readiness.
- Identifies client needs and refers to self-directed or assisted services as needed
- Schedules clients appointments and supports Employment Consultants, as needed.
- Responds to general inquiries by telephone, email and in-person.
- Provides one-on-one job search assistance, cover letter and resume revision/creation and coaching based upon client employment needs.
- Enters clients information into the Funders system and updates participant Employmen Action Plans as required.
- Researches, prints, catalogues, maintains up to date employment resource materials related to job postings, community events, and labour market.
- Provide support in job matching client’s skills and experience with publicly posted job vacancies.
- Support clients in removing temporary barriers to participation in employment by verifying client’s need and eligibility for employment-related financial supports
Documentation and Data Management
- Enter client information, all contacts, services, and outcomes related to client and employer activity on established data management systems.
- Utilize data management systems to structure follow up of client activity at prescribed intervals.
- Document in client/employer files each date of interaction and summarize discussions with clients.
- Maintain statistical data collection related to Resource Centre operations, including but not limited to: workshop attendance, appointment tracking and referrals
- Adhere to strict data privacy rules and regulations
Workshops & Community Relations
- Assists clients in the Resource Centre (on a recurring on-call basis), access labour market information and assist in the preparation of cover letters and resumes.
- Develop and facilitate group workshops or information sessions designed to assist clients in areas related to effective job search and retention, career direction, or short-term skills development.
- Source and coordinate relevant guest speakers and external workshop presenters to support the development of a monthly workshop schedule and for special events
- Support the coordination of onsite and offsite Job Fairs and Community Events
- Provide information on Community Employment Services to external stakeholders (this could include presentations as high schools, community meetings or events).
- Refer clients to relevant community services
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) year diploma or Graduate Certificate in Employment/Career Counselling, Social Work or Human Resources, or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) year experience working with unemployed clients, conducting outreach, delivering workshops and identifying and overseeing career and employment resources.
- The incumbent must be proficient in common computer applications, specifically: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
Anticipated Weekly Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 6.5 hrs/day
