The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) has been supporting people with disabilities for over 60 years. We at BACI believe that a home is more than just a location or physical materials. It is people, relationships intertwined with the day to day and the celebration of what's still to come. Life sharing is a fulfilling and rewarding experience where you are contributing to someone’s quality of life and well-being, while welcoming them into your circle of friends and family.
We are looking for someone to provide on-going support to a person with developmental disabilities. This is a full-time, supportive-roommate position in Vancouver. This young man loves hiking, biking, and kayaking, outings for burgers, and live music are a must. Spiritual practices include time in nature and at his Church. The ideal life share provider will be dedicated to assisting him with communication, connecting to friends and community inclusion, and helping out with daily living.
What you’ll bring:
- Ability with time and capacity to support the person with their day-to-day needs and activities.
- Commitment to creating a safe and caring place for the person to live and assisting them to be fully included in their community.
- Willingness to learn and grow and provide the person with mentorship around life skills and independent living.
- Previous experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities is considered an asset.
- An openness to move into a supported individual’s home to provide support.
Qualifications
- Some background in special needs support, whether it's formal through a job or informally with a family member or friend.
- First Aid is necessary for this role -we can support you to attain this certificate.
- Clean criminal record search for vulnerable populations.
What is offered to you as a contracted life sharing provider:
- Support through resources, guidance, training, and workshops
- Careful considerations during the matching process
- Monitoring services and regular contact and meetings with a BACI Life Share Manager
- Monthly contract compensation that is determined by the level of support required.
