Summary
As a Health & Safety Manager at MTE Logistix, you will play a critical leadership role in driving a culture of safety and operational excellence across all business units. This is a strategic and hands-on role that requires direct field experience and expertise in HSSE policies and risk management, and strong leadership in coaching and mentoring teams to integrate safety into daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage incidents and claims; investigate, liaise and coordinate with management and external agencies to manage claims and return-to-work programs, coordinating with WCB, OIS Clinics, Millard Health, private insurers, worksite management and employees.
- Keep records on incidents and accidents, compiling, analyzing and maintaining up-to-date KPI tracking statistics for management.
- Act as liaison with OH&S and other governing bodies, ensuring compliance with mandatory regulations at all times.
- Support corporate and business requirements with development, refinement, implementation, and maintenance of various H&S initiatives and serve as expert resource for OH&S information regarding process and regulations.
- Provide recommendations on technical compliance matters across multiple facilities, carry out risk assessments and consider how risks can be reduced.
- Provide health and safety training and documentation for the workforce, (i.e. safety manuals, safety bulletins, safety training sessions, alcohol & drug awareness training, company-wide safety orientations, etc.) and work with local facility managers for ongoing improvement and effectiveness of systems and processes.
- Lead the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and Partnership for Injury Reduction (PIR) programs by meeting requirements outlined by external parties.
- Complete audits, reviewing findings and work toward implementing improvements.
- Ensure workforce certification requirements (MHE operator certificates, qualifications, first-aid certifications, etc) are met and maintained up-to-date.
- Participate in the company’s food safety programs, including AIB Facility Audits, Food Defense Programs, and maintaining AB Health food handling permits.
Qualifications:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation - strong asset.
- ISO Lead Auditor Course (Preferred)
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field
- Preferred certifications: NCSO and CRST or CRSP designation or actively working toward them; required certifications include First Aid and WHMIS.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety roles, preferably in logistics, warehouse, construction, oil & gas, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian OH&S legislation and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication, training, interpersonal skills, and proficiency in MS Office; experience with safety management platforms like COR and ISNetworld is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with willingness to travel across to multiple warehouses within Alberta.
- Being a Forklift trainer or WHMIS trainer would be a benefit.
Desired Experience:
- 5+ years in an HSE role and 2+ years at a management level involved in developing and implementing health & safety programs, with demonstrable results.
