Overview

Lakehead University is seeking a dynamic, organized, and student-focused equity-driven Liaison Officer to support the delivery and growth of the Lakehead University Achievement Program. This program supports equity-deserving youth in realizing their potential and accessing post-secondary education. Reporting to the Achievement Program Manager, the Liaison Officer will provide administrative coordination, event planning, youth engagement, and partner collaboration to ensure the program achieves its mission of equity, access, and student success.

Responsibilities

Student & Family Support

  • Serve as a key contact and resource for students and families enrolled in the Achievement Program.
  • Build strong relationships with school board staff, teachers, principals, and Lakehead University faculty and staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to Achievement Program students attending Lakehead, including youth in care (through the Ontario Education Championship Team).

Event & Program Coordination

  • Assist in the planning, logistics, and execution of on- and off-campus events, such as student visits, speaker series, and camps.
  • Coordinate volunteer and part-time staff involvement in events and program delivery.

Administrative & Communication Support

  • Respond to general inquiries from internal and external stakeholders via email and phone.
  • Maintain detailed program records and student tracking systems.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, record minutes, book rooms and catering, and manage follow-up tasks.

Digital & Financial Support

  • Maintain and update program materials, the website, and social media platforms following the Achievement Program communication strategy.
  • Support financial processes including invoice processing, monthly statements, and part-time staff payroll.

Other - Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Achievement Program Manager.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in a relevant field (e.g., Indigenous Education, Education, Social Work, Youth Studies, or Business).
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous and equity-deserving children, youth, and families in community or educational settings.
  • Experience engaging with students, families, and partners in a post-secondary or youth-focused environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace; familiarity with website or social media tools is an asset.
  • Experience with basic financial processes (e.g., invoices, tracking expenses, payroll).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to transportation are considered an asset

  • You are a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or have been unemployed or underemployed and are entering a new field
  • You have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship
  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You reside, and are legally entitled to work, in Canada
