As the Public Safety Business & Data Analyst, you will play a key role in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. You will be responsible for managing and supporting EFRS software, records, and reporting systems, using your expertise in business analysis, data analysis, and GIS to inform strategic and operational decisions. A major part of your role will involve leading projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and finding efficiencies. You will collect, analyze, and interpret complex data to make recommendations on everything from key performance indicators and resource deployment to strategic planning and community risk assessment. Working collaboratively with a variety of partners, you will be a subject matter expert whose work directly aligns with the EFRS strategic goals and the Fire Rescue Master Plan.
What will you do?
- Lead and support projects aimed at improving EFRS business processes, systems, and service delivery
- Utilize various records and reporting systems (such as Tableau, Power BI, ESRI GIS) to access, extract, and prepare data for analysis
- Perform complex data analysis, including statistical analysis and trend identification, to generate actionable insights related to performance, resource deployment, and community risk
- Design, develop, and prepare comprehensive reports, interactive dashboards, and clear presentations for various audiences, including EFRS management
- Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives by providing data-driven insights and recommendations
- Analyze and interpret data to support policy development and evaluation
- Develop and implement data quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of EFRS data
- Champion data governance principles and best practices within the branch
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related analytical field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related analytical role
- Experience must include complex data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presenting findings to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated experience leading or significantly contributing to projects focused on business process improvement or system implementation
- Proven proficiency with SQL, GIS (e.g., ESRI), and Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
Assets:
- Certifications in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ESRI), Project Management (e.g., CAPM, PMP), or Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP)
- Specific training or experience with EFRS records and reporting systems (e.g., Deccan ADAM, BeeOn, CAD, RMS) or related systems
- Experience in a government or public safety role
Skills required for success:
- Strong research, data analysis, and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform statistical analysis and data modeling
- Excellent project management, coordination, and process improvement skills
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with a talent for translating complex technical information for non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to design and develop compelling reports and interactive dashboards using advanced data visualization techniques
- Ability to think critically to recommend viable and effective solutions
- A collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and team-building skills
- Adaptability to manage changing priorities and complex information in a timely manner

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)

Work Environment:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
