We are looking for a competent, experienced, collaborative, strategic, and committed Canadian

team leader to step into the role of Executive Director at International Physicians for the

Prevention of Nuclear War Canada. This part-time role (initially 20 hours/week) comes at an

important time for our Nobel Peace Prize affiliate organization, with active anti-nuclear

campaigns involving action and fundraising with health professionals, educators, youth, and

parliamentarians, nationally and globally.

The Executive Director serves as the key management leader of IPPNWC, overseeing the

administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. This role involves leading

fundraising efforts, managing staff, and representing IPPNWC to stakeholders, including donors,

government agencies, grassroots groups and the public, community outreach, and ensuring

alignment with the organization's mission. There will be mutually determined metrics and

accountability for outcomes. While we recognize the range of responsibilities outlined is broad,

the Executive Director will lead teams with our staff, contractors, and our active board, and have

access to a project budget.

Compensation will vary depending on the hours agreed upon for the contract and the candidate’s experience and the scope of responsibilities undertaken, based on which components of the Executive Director role are contracted

International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Canada (IPPNWC) is seeking a

visionary and dedicated Executive Director to lead our organization during a pivotal time in the

global movement for peace and nuclear disarmament. As the national affiliate of IPPNW and a

partner in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), IPPNWC is

committed to addressing the health consequences of violence, armed conflict, and weapons of

mass destruction, as well as promoting social justice in a sustainable world

Position Overview:

The Executive Director serves as the key management leader of IPPNWC, overseeing the

Organizational Overview:

International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Canada (IPPNWC) is the national

affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) and a member of

the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Incorporated in 2020, with a

rich history of members dating back to the 19080s, IPPNWC has a longstanding history of

uniting Canadian physicians in advocating against nuclear war.

Mission:

IPPNWC is committed to education and research about the humanitarian consequences of

nuclear weapons, militarism, and climate change. The organization aims to:

● Teach, research, and address the health consequences of violence, armed conflict, and

weapons of mass destruction.

● Explore the health implications associated with energy resources and armed conflict.

● Promote methods of nonviolent conflict resolution.

● Advocate for social justice in a sustainable world.

Qualifications:

Required:

● Eligibility to work in Canada.

● Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international development, peace and

disarmament, or related field; or substantial relevant experience.

● 3+ years of experience in management, business administration or relevant work in a

non-profit organization.

● Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.

● Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

● Demonstrated ability in fundraising and donor relations.

● Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.

● High level of integrity and transparency.

Assets:

● Experience in global affairs, international relations, public policy, or public health.

● Knowledge of nuclear disarmament and related treaties.

● Interest in peace activism and social justice movements.

● Experience working with a Board of Directors.
