About the role

Position Title: DevOps Engineer Department: Analytics Location: Toronto Status: Permanent Full-time (Hybrid) Day in the life of: As a self-regulatory organization, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) is committed to setting high regulatory standards for the investment industry, safeguarding investors, and supporting the integrity of Canada’s capital markets. Part of our strategic goals includes using data to analyze trends, identify emerging risks, and inform our regulatory approach. Reporting to the Vice President of Analytics, the DevOp Engineer will play a key role in all operational aspects of the full lifecycle of software and data engineering development that supports key projects undertaken by the group, working closely with a team of data scientists, data engineers, and full stack developers.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deploy CI and CD tools across the organization
  • Building and implementing new development tools and infrastructure
  • Create and move business services and functions into a private cloud architecture
  • Drive & deploy infrastructure improvement ideas
  • Monitor deployments, incidents, and KPIs
  • Develop automated tools as-appropriate and troubleshoot as-needed
  • Keep UAT and production environments up and running according to Service Level Agreements (SLA) and provide attention to incidents
  • Perform root-cause analysis and troubleshoot in-house and cloud services
  • Provide regular feedback to other team members through a peer code review process/
  • Communicate effectively on progress and potential risks
  • Write documentation to describe application design and functionality
  • Direct and oversee special projects as requested by the VP, and support business decisions with ad-hoc requests as required

Key Skills and Competencies: Must-haves

  • BSc or MSc in computer sciences, computer engineering or related technical field.
  • Proficient in Linux and windows administration
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common networking protocols Experience with managing cloud-based environments (AWS)
  • Knowledge of test and build systems, source code repositories and integrated deployment environments
  • Familiar with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
  • Proficient with automation and scripting languages (Shell, Python, and/or Perl)
  • Hands-on experience with distributed application architectures (containers, kubernetes, serverless technology)
  • Experience with AWS Web Services EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, Route53, S3, CloudFormation or Terraform, and other AWS Services
  • Experience with container management and micro-services architectures such as Docker
  • Exceptional knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, and SQL
  • Hands on experience working with JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Node.js, React, and Vue.js
  • Good understanding of all aspects of software engineering, end-to-end development life cycle, and post-launch production support
  • Solid team player, technical coach & mentor to others
  • Solid communicator
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time

Nice to Haves

  • Some working knowledge of the functioning of the capital markets and securities industry is an asset
