Job Purpose

The Financial Accounting Lead is responsible for providing support with the day-to-day accounting functions and financial reporting of the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Display a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee and complete the compilation of financial reporting packages:
  • Supervising the financial reporting process through the analysis and review of financial statements and reporting packages for management, ownership, and external stakeholders for Waiward and Joint Ventures.
  • Managing the month end process by tracking the month end calendar, following up with team members, and shifting allocations to complete tasks.
  • Review of monthly accounting reconciliations and numerous journal entries and the trial balance to support the month end process.
  • Review government remittances (GST & PST reconciliations & filing).
  • Provide financial information and regulatory reporting to the leadership team by analyzing accounting data and preparing reports for strategic decision making.
  • Complete ad-hoc financial information requests from finance and operational departments.
  • Support multiple members of the finance team by answering daily questions regarding finance related processes, journal entry coding, and analysis of issues related to accounting/financial systems.
  • Responsible for the Budgeting and Forecasting process.
  • Responsible for management of the external audit through the preparation of the financial statements, supporting working papers and acting as the main point of contact for requests.

Finance Management

  • Responsible for managing access, and assists with credit cards and pay run approvals in bank account.
  • Manage cashflows through cash flow forecasting and review of bank transactions. Completed through the weekly preparation of cash flow forecasts which includes a review of the prior week estimates and the monitoring of daily cash transactions.

Management Support Functions

  • Coordinate and conduct the annual inventory count.
  • Provide information related to insurance for the organization including supporting the renewal documents, discussion with providers, and processing of claims. Includes the research and answering of ad hoc questions as well as COI processing.
  • Completing credit applications.
  • Manage leases by reviewing monthly lease payments and overseeing annual rent reconciliations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting and equivalent experience required.
  • Completed CPA designation.
  • 3-5+ years of accounting/finance experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external resources.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills to simultaneously handle and prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
  • Very strong analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, articulate ideas, and react appropriately under pressure.
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with working knowledge of Excel at a high intermediate level.

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
