About the role

Overview:

Our client is looking for an accounting professional to join their team. This role reports to the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Banking & Accounts Payable Oversight
  • Perform daily, weekly and month-end bank reporting inclusive of period end reconciliations for all bank accounts, FX revaluation
  • Maintenance of all loan schedules, payments, and periodic accruals
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable team, ensuring accurate invoice validation and timely disbursements.
  • Licensor Accounting & Reporting
  • Maintain and update schedules by licensor, including calculation of accruals and true ups.
  • Prepare periodic reports and serve as the primary contact for licensors.
  • Month-End Close
  • Prepare and post journal entries and accruals as required within the close calendar deadlines.
  • Complete assigned balance sheet reconciliations
  • Manage inventory and cost of sales reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Generate and distribute monthly financial statements and internal reporting packages
  • Conduct variance analysis against budget and prior year with clear explanations of key drivers.
  • Audit and Tax
  • Assist with preparation of audit working papers and tax schedules for external auditors and tax advisors
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with government compliance reporting (e.g., Blue Box, Non-Resident Taxes).
  • Ensure accurate tax filings and payments (HST, QST, Corporate Tax).
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • CPA or near completion
  • University business degree
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in accounting and finance
  • Experience in the consumer product distribution or retail industry would be an asset
  • 3+ years of experience with inventory and cost of goods sold in a multi-currency environment
  • Excellent computer and organization skills, including demonstrated advanced Excel using pivot tables and v-lookups.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Ability to be successful in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Able to work overtime, where required, to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
