This position is temporary to cover a 5 month leave!!!!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide care to stable patients recovering from a variety of addictions within a therapeutic milieu environment
  • Support the principles of the addiction program delivered primarily through a group model
  • Contribute to stable patient care needs according to CNO standards, RPNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy and diversified patient populations
  • Prioritize and function effectively in a large, demanding environment under the supervision of the Charge Nurse
  • Provide nursing care on units and accept changing work assignments across the Addiction Medicine Program as required
  • Ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times
  • Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
  • Facilitate group sessions and participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences
  • Assess for potential risks, and assist in extreme, or life-threatening emergencies

What we’re looking for:

  • Licensed as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
  • 2+ years of experience working with patients who have a broad range of addiction, and psychiatric diagnoses preferred
  • BCLS for Healthcare Providers
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, and community mental health resources
  • Knowledge of CBT/DBT and/or group facilitation will be an asset
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients
  • Current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behavior
  • Understanding of the addicted patient population, treatment methodologies, and medications
  • Awareness and acknowledgement of the value of using measurement-based care when supporting patients/clients to help guide clinical decision making; experience an asset
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with working with a number of systems and software applications
